|  | What is Miracle Meadows School Miracle Meadows School (MMS) is a school for boys and girls, 8 to 17 years of age, who are experiencing difficulty relating in a positive way to family, school, church, or community. Specifically, MMS enrolls boys and girls who are experiencing defiance, dishonesty, school failure, trouble with the law, spiritual disinterest, poor social skills, and other behavior that is harmful to them and to society. MMS is a Seventh-day Adventist boarding school that operates 12 months a year. Learning experiences at MMS are designed to meet the needs of students with any of the following characteristics: - Defiant toward authority
- Dishonest (lying, stealing, sneaking)
- Truant or failing in school
- Broken relationships with parents, God, others
- Use of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco
- Poor social skills
- Low self-image, discouraged
- Poor work skills
- Irresponsible, undisciplined
- Destructive, aggressive
- Dismissed from other schools
Miracle Meadows School is NOT designed to meet the needs of students with mental retardation, serious psychiatric disorders or serious chemical dependency. Parents and family members must be willing to attend regular Parent Education weekends (once every 3 months) and must be willing to work with Miracle Meadows in the development of their child through family group sessions and regular communication with staff members. Our Goal Simply stated, our goal is to enable students to return home or to boarding school as quickly as possible. In order to achieve that goal, we provide a low distraction environment and focus on 4 major domains of growth: 1) the spiritual domain; 2) mental domain; 3) physical domain; and 4) social domain. Students are held accountable by staff members and other students for all of their actions in a highly supervised, structured environment. Additional Information about Miracle Meadows School MMS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) parochial boarding school registered with the state of West Virginia Department of Education. MMS was started in 1988 and received non-profit status in 1990. It is an approved member of the Adventist-Layman’s Services and Industries, the official organization of Seventh-day Adventist Supporting Ministries. However, unlike other parochial boarding schools, we specialize in at-risk teenagers. While the Seventh-day Adventist Church operates a worldwide Christian education system consisting of thousands of schools, MMS is currently one of only 4 schools worldwide which enrolls secondary and elementary students who are defiant, deviant, disrespectful, failing in school, and in trouble with the law. MMS is the only SDA school that is willing to accept aggressive and violent students. Students are NOT expelled because of misbehavior. Besides regular academics, MMS students are taught social skills, respect for authority, effective work habits, communication skills, and aided in working through disruptive family issues. Hundreds of students from all over the United States and foreign countries have been helped in getting their lives back on track through the program at MMS. Miracle Meadows School: - Accommodates up to 45 students in 2 home-style dormitories.
- Has 30-34 staff members, many who come from all over the world.
- Is governed by a board of directors, comprised of business people, professionals, and Seventh-day Adventist conference employees (including the former President of Mountainview Conference and Columbia Union education associates, etc.).
- On a daily basis is directed by an administrative committee comprised of MMS staff members and chaired by the Executive Director of MMS, Aaron Weber.
- Has had hundreds of students enrolled from all over the USA including students from Canada, Caribbean, Korea, Bermuda, Chile, and Venezuela.
- Is located on 200 acres of Appalachian hills.
- Teaches basic elementary and secondary academic subjects.
- Teaches social skills such as, conflict management, reflective listening, positive character traits, working skills, assertiveness, etc.
- Has a choir, drama club, art class and generally encourages artistic development in our students.
- Has one on one counseling with students as well as student group learning sessions included in the program.
- Incorporates family learning sessions with participating family members during parent visits to campus.
- Is recognized by the State of West Virginia as a school and not a licensed group home or childcare facility.
- Does not receive government or denominational funding and therefore operates frugally within a budget based on tuition collected. Capital improvements are accomplished by fundraising.
- Students mainstream successfully into both private and public schools and colleges. Credits transfer without problems.
